A day for reflection, rembrance and recognition

As we wake up today, we are especially mindful about what happened on this day eight years ago. For many of us, it’s a day that’s full of tough memories, like scrambling desperately to connect with loved ones to make sure they were okay, being locked down in offices in NY until things were settled, racing as fast as we could to hold our dearest tighter than ever before, waiting painfully to hear from soneone. It was a day that forever changed this country and even the world. Earlier this week I wrote about a Maasai tribesman who was so moved the terrible attacks that he was moved to give the US one of his most sacred possessions a cow.

Today, I want to do something a little off the roadmap for this blog – instead of writing about a person, or a brand or an experience, I want to write about the community and relationships that were formed on that day. I am confident that we don’t know half of the heroic events that took place on 9/11 and in the days and weeks, months and even years that followed.  And while I don’t know each story I do know that authentic relationships were formed and community was not only created but mobilized in a matter of seconds. I’m sure we only know a piece of the story.

But the pieces of this story we do know are powerful and portraits of authenticity in action. I’m asking you to take a minute today in  remembrance  and recognition of: the innocent passengers,  the rescue workers, the families and even the communties around the globe who came together to help in the only ways they knew how. Let’s never forget the tragedy. And…let’s never forget the goodness that flowed as well.
